Mid-century modern furniture is in high demand today but beware of the knock offs.

Virtually all the 20th century classics are being knocked off by China and at a tenth of the cost. But there are glaring differences that distinguish the copy from the original. This lecture presented by Dr. Oscar P. Fitzgerald* will reveal what to look for and how to avoid the fakes. Bring photos of modern furniture to discuss at the end of the lecture.

*Dr. Oscar P. Fitzgerald, a nationally known furniture historian, is Adjunct Professor at the Smithsonian Institution/George Washington University Master’s Program in the History of Decorative Arts and Design. His publications include American Furniture: 1650 to the Present, the standard textbook in the field and the recently published American Furniture Designers: 1900-2020. a survey of the top 20, 20th century furniture designers.  He currently serves on the Alexandria Library Board.
