Ready your ingredients and get ready to bake along at home! Learn how to make a dessert for Hispanic Heritage Month!

For Hispanic Heritage Month, we are learning to make Tres Leches Cake. Alexandria small business owner Amy DuVall of from politics to pastry will bake with you in real time and show you how to make these delicious treats step by step, while sharing helpful baking and kitchen tips along the way. 

In this class, you get to bake along at home with Amy, who will instruct you live on Zoom. A recipe will be sent out ahead of time to anyone registered, but you should have the following ingredients ready to go:

For the cake:

1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
5 large eggs, room temperature
½ tsp vanilla extract 

For the filling and topping:

2 cups whole milk
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 12-ounce can evaporated milk
1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Tools you will need:

Stand Mixer with both paddle and whisk attachments (hand mixer can also work)
9"x13” baking pan (lightly oiled and floured)
Whisk (which will be used twice, cleaned in-between)
One large mixing bowl
Two medium mixing bowls
One small bowl (cereal/soup size)
Spatula (rubber/silicone)
Off-set spatula (or a second rubber/silicone traditional spatula)
Measuring cups
Measuring spoons
Knife (regular silverware size)
Fork (regular silverware size)
Oven
Oven mits/potholders
